A serious incident recently rocked the waters around Phuket. On February 7, 2026 at 3:30 p.m., a container ship sank in the Andaman Sea with a gross tonnage of 4,339 tons. The accident occurred near Koh Kaew Noi, Rawai, Phuket, and poses a serious threat to shipping traffic. The ship, which originated in Malaysia and was en route to Bangladesh, was carrying a total of 290 containers. These included 14 containers with dangerous substances. After sinking, some of the containers floated uncontrollably on the water, which poses additional risks.
Rescue operations and precautionary measures
