Big win for Queen Suthida at the Phuket King's Cup 2025!

On December 6, 2025, the 37th edition of the “Phuket King’s Cup Regatta” took place at the Beyond Kata Hotel, an event that not only makes the hearts of sailing fans beat faster, but also has a royal presence. King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida were there and presented the coveted trophies to the winners. It was a great spectacle that attracted both local and international participants.

The regatta is an integral part of the calendar highlight in Phuket, which only takes place once a year. Back in 1987, the first regatta was held in honor of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 60th birthday. Since then, the event has grown into an important event promoting sailing in Thailand on a national and international level. This year a total of 120 boats and 450 participants took part from various countries including Australia, Japan, Sweden and Germany.

Royal and embattled

What was particularly notable was that the Queen herself competed in the final of the international sailing regatta. As navigator of the boat “Vayu” (THA72) in the IRC Zero class, she steered the team to an impressive victory, taking second place overall after a successful eighth race. This commitment by the Queen not only shows her sporting side, but also the tradition associated with the regatta. Thairath reports that the Queen and King traveled directly back to Phuket Airport after the event.

The awards ceremony was a celebratory highlight of the regatta, which took place in the Ganda Hall of the Beyond Kata Hotel. There the president of the Thai Sailing Association handed over the event documents to the king. Admiral Korawit Chaiyarot, the commander of the Navy, also took part, presenting the documents to the Queen, while Admiral Phairoj Fuengchan presented monetary donations. Supporters of the event also received commemorative plaques as a token of recognition for their help.

Festive atmosphere and large number of spectators

The regatta runs from November 30th to December 6th, with Kata Beach being the perfect place to watch the spectacular racing. Here, spectators can enjoy great views and find themselves in the festive atmosphere. Anticipation is high, as is the opportunity to take part in the beach parties and other events that make life on land in Phuket flourish. In order to secure a place at the events, it is recommended to book the tickets early, which are available on the official website.

The Phuket King's Cup Regatta has established itself as a significant event that not only promotes sailing rankings, but also shapes the kingdom's sense of community and cultural identity. The organizers certainly have a good hand, and the event will continue to attract many sailing enthusiasts to the magical beach of Kata.
