Voting documents from abroad: Thai embassies in action!
The electoral process in Thailand is gaining momentum! Today, January 31, 2026, all eyes are on the return of voting documents from abroad. These are continually coming back to the kingdom, which is of great importance for the upcoming elections. A lot happened on January 30, 2023 in particular: On that day, voting documents were distributed to 400 constituencies in Thailand.
The situation in Europe is particularly exciting. On January 29, 2023, the Thai embassy in Brussels, Belgium, sent four diplomatic mailbags with a total of 974 election documents. These were transported to Brussels Airport by Thai Airways and were scheduled to arrive in Thailand at 6:10 a.m. today, January 31, 2023. Upon arrival, representatives from the Overseas Election Coordination Center and the Election Commission (GEC) will receive the documents and forward them to the respective constituencies.
Organized returns from different countries
It's not just in Belgium that people work hard. The embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, didn't miss a beat either. An impressive 2,556 voting documents arrived there, which corresponds to 87 percent of registered voters abroad. That’s a total of 2,972,937 voters! The electoral materials were also sent to Thailand on January 29, 2023 and the votes for the referendum will be counted on February 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. Swedish time.
- Die Botschaft in London, Großbritannien, hat fast alle registrierten Wahlunterlagen erhalten und ruft die Wähler dazu auf, ihre Unterlagen bis Ende des Tages, also bis zum 31. Januar 2023, zurückzusenden. Die Unterlagen wurden bereits seit dem 14. Januar 2023 an die registrierten Wähler verteilt.
- In den Niederlanden, genauer gesagt in Den Haag, wurden 1.167 Wahlunterlagen in zwei diplomatischen Posttaschen versendet. Diese wurden zwischen dem 22. und 26. Januar 2023 abgegeben und mit EVA Air nach Thailand geschickt, wo sie am 30. Januar 2023 um 14:40 Uhr ankommen sollen.
As you can see, Thailand has a good hand at organizing election materials. The constant returns from various countries pave the way for the upcoming elections to run smoothly. It remains exciting to see how voters will react to these efforts and how the elections will ultimately turn out.
