Thailand Boat Festival 2026: A celebration of maritime tourism!
Full speed ahead into the future of maritime tourism: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), together with regional partners, has launched the Thailand Boat Festival 2026, which will take place from January 15th to 18th, 2026 in the picturesque Phuket Boat Lagoon. The aim of the festival is to establish Thailand as a regional center for maritime tourism and to strengthen cooperation within the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT). This cooperation is also intended to help improve cross-border connections between the participating countries.
The festival offers an international platform for the exchange of ideas between government and private actors in the tourism sector. MTV and yacht operators, tourism authorities and many other stakeholders from across the region will take part in the event to discuss the development of maritime tourism together and learn from each other. Guests can look forward to boat and watercraft exhibitions, culinary experiences and cultural performances, making it a colorful feast for the senses.
Focus on niche markets and luxury tourism
In recent years, Phuket has become a hotspot for higher quality travel. The festival's focus is therefore also on niche markets and luxury tourism in order to position Thailand as a preferred travel destination for international holidaymakers. Wajanan Silpawornwiwat, Managing Director of TAT's Southern Region Department, highlights the importance of developing skilled professionals as well as quality tourism products. This is to ensure that visitors' expectations are met at the highest level.
The festival will also feature exciting panel sessions where representatives from regional tourism and port authorities will share insights on infrastructure, market potential and collaboration between Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. A separate panel on January 17 will be dedicated to positioning the IMT-GT region as a cohesive yacht tourism destination. Here we discuss how to leverage existing infrastructure to realize this vision.
New horizons for maritime cooperation
Of course, the Thailand Boat Festival 2026 is not just a platform for discussions. Rather, it serves as a catalyst to improve connectivity between key maritime destinations on Thailand's Andaman Coast and those of neighboring countries. Phuket will be highlighted as the primary hub, while Krabi and Satun will be promoted as gateways to world-class yachting experiences, offering seamless connections to Langkawi, Penang and Sabang.
Wattana Choksuwanich, chairwoman of the Thai Cruises Business Association, emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors. “The festival shows how we can build a connected maritime tourism network together,” she says, underlining the important role that all players play in this dynamic industry.
Overall, the Thailand Boat Festival 2026 is a sign of the upswing in maritime tourism and a step towards greater regional cooperation. It is hoped that this initiative will open up many new avenues for maritime tourism in Thailand and beyond.
