A recent break-in at an exclusive pool villa in Phuket caused a stir. The Patong police have successfully solved the case, which occurred on the night of October 26th. How Weekly flash Reportedly, the 40-year-old suspect, Huynh Van Chay from Vietnam, was arrested at a hotel in Patong on October 29th.
The villa belonged to a family from Hong Kong who lived there with their 34-year-old housekeeper, Pilawan Tathep. Valuable things were stolen during the break-in, including 5,000 Hong Kong dollars and 25,000 Thai baht, which corresponds to a total of around 1,220 euros. The facility's surveillance cameras captured the suspect entering the property around 2 a.m. and committing the thefts.
The arrest and investigation
The manhunt was conducted under the leadership of Police Chief Colonel Chalermchai Hirasawat. The getaway vehicle, a Honda PCX160 motorcycle with a Phuket license plate, may have provided clues to the suspect. When he was arrested, officers not only found the motorcycle, but also a large haul of various items of clothing, including a Gucci hooded jacket, sandals and 5,000 baht in cash.
Huynh Van Chay confessed to the crime and cooperated with investigators. He is now charged with theft under Section 334 of the Thai Penal Code and will remain in custody pending arraignment.
