Major raid against online fraudsters: 9 million pieces of data stolen!

On November 7, 2025, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society conducted the large-scale operation “Cut Down Scam” to crack down on online fraud. Searches were carried out at eight locations in seven provinces, including the popular holiday island of Phuket, together with the Center for Combating Online Fraud, the National Police, the Data Protection Bureau and the Criminal Investigation Department. A total of six people were arrested.

The raids uncovered a worrying level of illegal activity, primarily through call center groups and online gambling. The group of perpetrators had access to around 9 million personal data of victims, including names, addresses, telephone numbers and bank details. This information came mostly from illegal gambling sites and fraudulent apps, made available by the operators through a Facebook page called “Gray Marketing,” where data packages were sold for between 3,000 and 5,000 baht per 100,000 records. Chaiyacharn Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, outlined the dramatic situation in a press conference and pointed out the total damage of over 298 million baht. There have already been 4,000 known victims of this scam.

Searches and arrests

The searches took place in provinces such as Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Saraburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chonburi and Phuket. Several devices were seized during the operations, including six computers, 17 cell phones, nine data storage devices and several bank accounts. In addition to arresting the suspects, the police intend to hand over the suspects for criminal prosecution on charges of violating the Personal Data Protection Act. The maximum penalty for such offenses can be up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 500,000 baht.

The investigation shows that the suspects systematically used their victims' personal information for fraud purposes and even undercover purchases by the police took place to collect evidence. Over 2.3 million additional personal data were secured, which resulted from cases that had already been reported.

Background of the operation

The rise in online fraud crimes has led to the creation of the Anti Cyber Scam Center (ACSC), which was created specifically to counteract this type of crime. Operation “Cut Down Scam” is an important step in this fight. According to Chaiyacharn Chidchob, such measures are essential to maintain citizens' trust in digital platforms and promote online safety.

The raid and arrests are a clear sign that the government is ready to take action against this type of crime. Online fraud remains a serious problem, but actions like this are moving closer to a solution. It is hoped that such measures will continue to be implemented in the future to protect citizens from fraudsters.
