Air monitoring in Phuket: fight against environmental destruction started
In Phuket, air monitoring led by Dr. Rawiwan Puridech, Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, reached a new milestone. On February 11, 2026, Puridech assigned Inspector Kanta Phan Pitsal Sukul to carry out a comprehensive environmental inspection mission. A helicopter from the ministry's Digital Technology and Aviation Center has been assigned specifically for this task. Under the motto “Protecting nature through technology,” the team set out to collect important data about the protected areas, as today.line.me reports.
Surveillance focused on zones A1N and A2. From there, aerial photographs were taken to examine the state of the environment in the affected regions. Collaboration was a priority: the Krabi Forestry Management Office No. 12 and the Phuket Environmental Resources Office were active partners in this effort. This cooperation is essential in order to gain a thorough overview of the situation on site.
Develop an action plan
A clear action plan was drawn up for aerial monitoring aimed at collecting data on the destruction of natural resources and the environment in protected areas and national parks. The period for this important mission was between February 2 and 20, 2026. Inspectors identified a total of 19 points that require more intensive review. These areas cover nearly 423.6 rai or about 169.4 hectares, including Khao Mai Pok National Park, Kaew Forest and Klong U Thapao Mangrove Area.
Particularly noteworthy is the fact that some of the points identified require a more in-depth review of usage. It is expected that the collected data and aerial images will be used for ground investigation to verify rights and take legal action if necessary.
Proactive measures for environmental protection
Dr. Puridech stressed the importance of disseminating the information to relevant authorities to support systematic management of these valuable areas. “It is essential to protect our natural resources and seriously combat forest destruction,” said the Secretary-General. He reiterated the intention to use modern technology to support proactive measures. Cooperation with local authorities will also be intensified to ensure a sustainable future for Phuket and its environment.
The results of this air monitoring are a step in the right direction and show that Phuket is committed to pursuing its environmental goals. This commitment, together with the governance of local communities, could help secure the region's unique natural resources in the long term.
