Be careful, Phuket! Danger from sunken containers – warning from the Ministry of the Environment
The news from Phuket is causing worried faces: The Thai Ministry of the Environment has issued an urgent warning to ask the population to keep a safe distance from dangerous containers. This measure became necessary after the container ship SEALLOYD ARC sank on February 7, 2026. Measuring 4,339 GT and 113 meters long, the ship was a remarkable sight on the water until it sank at a depth of 61 meters southwest of Koh Kaew Noi. The exact coordinates of the accident are 7° 43.88″ N, 98° 16.62″ E, as reported by today.line.me.
The accident occurred while transporting 297 containers that were floating around after sinking. The Ministry of the Environment has now issued clear instructions to ensure the safety of the population. What is surprising is that among these containers there may also be ones with danger symbols, which makes the precautionary measures even more important.
Security measures in detail
What should citizens do in this situation? Here are the key points listed by the Ministry of Environment:
The warning was signed on February 10, 2026 by Surin Wakkitthamrong, director of the Ministry of Environment. In times like these, it is important that we all be mindful and do what we can to protect ourselves and others. The situation reminds us how quickly things can change in the harbor basin and that protecting our environment and our community should always be our top priority.
