Uganda opens trade forum in Thailand: opportunities for investors!
“The Pearl of Africa – Uganda Business Forum & Expo 2025 – Thailand Chapter” will take place in Thailand on November 12, 2025. This exciting event is organized by the Ugandan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, which is also responsible for Thailand. The goal? To promote trade and investment opportunities between Uganda and Thailand and highlight business opportunities in Uganda. The theme of the Expo is “Unlocking Uganda’s Business Potential” and promises to provide an insight into the diverse economic opportunities of this East African country, also known as the “Pearl of Africa”.
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, surrounded by Kenya to the east, South Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, Rwanda to the southwest and Tanzania to the south. The country has a population of around 49.3 million, of which 8.5 million live in the capital, Kampala. This lively city is known not only for its parks and promenade on the shores of Lake Victoria, but also for the cultural diversity that Uganda has to offer. Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania, is the largest freshwater lake in Africa and an important part of Ugandan identity.
History and development
Uganda can look back on an eventful history. The country gained independence from Great Britain in 1962 after initially being a British protectorate. This led to various political upheavals, including the rise to power of Idi Amin in the 1970s, known for his brutal rule. Since then, President Yoweri Museveni, who took power in 1986 after a guerrilla war, has brought stability and economic growth, albeit with significant human rights and corruption challenges. The service sector now plays a dominant role in the economy, which is characterized by agriculture and untapped oil reserves.
Although school education and health care in Uganda have made progress in recent decades, major challenges remain. The society is characterized by ethnic diversity, and despite the official languages being English and Swahili, there are many local dialects that reflect the country's cultural heritage.
Cultural diversity and economic potential
The mix of different ethnic groups in Uganda creates a colorful culture that can also be felt in the markets and in the kitchen. Coffee, as an important agricultural product in Uganda, appeals to a wide international audience. Uganda has rich biodiversity and offers numerous national parks that attract tourism while making an important contribution to economic development.
Given these rich resources and a dynamic entrepreneurial spirit, it is no wonder that the Pearl of Africa – Uganda Business Forum & Expo 2025 is seen as a fantastic opportunity to both explore Uganda’s business opportunities and strengthen international ties.
For those interested, the Expo details can be viewed online. Discovered by the British in the 19th century and gaining independence in 1962, Uganda is poised to show its full economic potential on the international stage.
