Already at the opening on October 5, 2025, which took place under the leadership of Governor Mr. Saran Sak Srikhruenet, the focus was clearly on the skills and knowledge in the hotel and service sector. Top news reports That the event was not only accompanied by various professional associations, but also included delicious cooking demonstrations - including the famous papaya salad “Som Tam”, prepared by the governor himself. The event was supported by the Southern Thailand Association of Artisan Guides and Professionals and the Andaman Food and Beverage Association.
Governor Srikhruenet emphasized the importance of this initiative in developing Phuket as a global tourism and services center. Commitment to workforce training and quality will help Phuket emerge as a pioneer at the international level. The fair was an invitation to the public to encourage students and interested parties to take part, and this was very well received.
Sustainability in focus
Phuket not only plays a key role in gastronomic and tourism development, but also leads Thailand's sustainable tourism efforts. How Mekong Tourism reports, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched the “Green Hotel Plus Phuket Sandbox” project. The aim is to raise hotel sustainability standards to an international level by February 2026, thereby reducing the environmental impact of the tourism sector, which brought in 1.67 trillion baht last year.
Of particular note is the goal of awarding 600 hotels with the Green Hotel Plus certification by 2026, which is recognized worldwide. The focus is on implementing low-carbon operations, reducing waste and adopting environmentally friendly management practices. The coming measures will significantly contribute to positioning Phuket as a leading destination for sustainable tourism.
Overall, it is clear that Phuket is not only on the rise culturally and gastronomically, but is also consistently focusing on sustainable solutions. There's a lot going on here, and it'll be interesting to see how developments unfold over the next few months.
