Phuket: Named among the top 25 travel destinations for 2026 again!

The tropical dream island of Phuket has once again received international recognition. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced today that Phuket has been named among the world's top 25 travel destinations for 2026. This award from Lonely Planet highlights not only the island's beauty, but also its unique coastal lifestyle and rich cultural identity that attracts tourists from all over the world. On October 22, 2025, the Best in Travel 2026 list was released, highlighting Phuket as one of the most inspiring destinations. As TAT News reports, Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool recognized the importance of this award for Phuket and Thailand's commitment to quality emphasizes high-quality, responsible tourism.

The publication Lonely Planet praises Phuket's development as a destination that combines relaxation on its beautiful beaches with creativity and local charm. A brand new Phuket itinerary has been unveiled, offering diverse experiences in gastronomy, art and design. This focus on diversity is also reflected in the island's ethnically rich cuisine, which offers numerous new dishes and restaurants, as Lonely Planet highlights.

Local treasures and travel recommendations

Phuket is not only the largest island in Thailand, but also a cultural mosaic, where around 70% of the population has mixed Straits Chinese and Thai roots. The old town, with its brightly painted colonial houses and lively markets, offers an authentic Thai feel that visitors shouldn't miss. The island is also ideal for outdoor activities, with hills, rainforests and waterfalls providing ideal conditions for hiking.

The best time to travel to Phuket is from late December to mid-April. During this time, visitors can expect hot summer weather with tolerable humidity and hardly any rain, ideal for jungle tours, boat trips and beach holidays, reports Tourlane. Less crowds and good weather can be expected, especially between January and March, while prices are highest around the holidays.

Unforgettable experiences and activities

For a short trip to Phuket, travelers should plan at least two days to really enjoy the beauty of the island. For deeper exploration, seven days are ideal. Travel is easy by air with Thai Airways or budget airlines, while the Smart Bus offers a cost-effective connection between the airport and the west coast beaches. In addition to popular activities like private fishing trips and local tours in Bang Rong, visiting historical sites like Chinpracha House is also a highlight.

Popular locations that Lonely Planet mentions in its award include Sirinat National Park, Phuket Windmill Viewpoint and Ya Nui Beach. Gastronomy is also very important, and the Phuket Raya Restaurant is one of the most sought-after destinations for gourmets. The local market landscape offering authentic Thai food, from Talad Ruam Jai to Talad Nad Kondee, completes the experience.

Phuket remains a place known not only for its beautiful beaches, but also for its cultural diversity and warm hospitality. This paradise is attracting more and more international attention and proves once again that it is one of the best travel destinations in the world.
