The Thai Railway Company, also known as SRT, conducted a significant test run of the modern Kiha 40 and Kiha 48 diesel multiple units on October 24, 2025. This trip led from the Makkasan workshop to the train station in Ayutthaya and was aimed at checking performance under realistic operating conditions. Before this test run, various engineering tests took place in August 2025. This was all done in accordance with international standards, more specifically the IEC 61133 standard. Realistic timetables in prospect
The test simulated the stops at key train stations such as Don Mueang, Rangsit and Thammasat University to evaluate the system preparation. The SRT plans to use the modernized diesel multiple units on the important connection between Bangkok, Don Mueang and Ayutthaya from the beginning of 2026. A total of six trains are expected to be successfully modernized by the end of 2025, including four in 2025 and two at the beginning of 2026.
